Army JROTC was first introduced into the Cumberland County School System at South View Senior High School in August 1974 with 147 cadets in attendance for the 1974-1975 school year. Approximately 15-21 percent of the JROTC cadets enter college ROTC, Law Enforcement, or enter military service.
The JROTC program provides the opportunity for a cadet to develop and improve oneself is a variety of ways. The purpose of the JROTC Program is to:
Improve physical fitness
Develop leadership potential
Sharpen communication skills
Provide incentives to live drug free
Promote and encourage citizenship through community projects
Promote graduation from high school and develop a foundation for career development
